2012 lambs now arriving.

We now have a representative cross-section of lambs sired by Pay Day and Catalyst. We could not be more excited! Based on early evaluations the hip structure, design and power these lambs display exceeds our expectations! Our first Apex lamb has also been born–you will like this lamb!

The next two weeks will bring the majority of our lambs to the lambing jugs with lots of genetic combinations to evaluate. Watch our blog and website –we will keep you posted on some key lambs as they are born.

The Fred Knop Family

2011 American Royal

We congratulate Sara Johnson for showing the Lot 16 lamb from our 2011 Knop Online Club Lamb Sale to 3rd place honors in class 6 behind the Res. Grand Champion Overall (Res. Champion Hampshire). This lamb was sired by Wheaton 18, an Untouchable son, and damned by Knop 676, a daughter of Step Ahead (Knop).

Two photos of this lamb can be found on our champion page. This is the type of lamb we expect in 2012 out of our Wheaton and Impact rams back on our Knop linebred females and the Impact Hampshire females.

Full Update of Reference Sires

We have now completed a full update of many of the significant reference sires responsible for the genetic background of our flock. As you scroll through the various sires please note the impact of the linebred Mayer Hampshire genepool throughout most of our sires. Our flock is sometimes referred to as a “Suffolk” flock but in reality it is double linebred Mayer Hampshire and Crazy Horse Suffolk. It is our desire to combine the best of both the Hampshire and Suffolk worlds into a genetic entity that will breed true and perform consistently. Our 2012 lamb crop promises to document this effort.

2012 Sale dates now posted.

We have posted our 2012 sale dates under our For Sale tab. Please watch the For Sale tab for additional information.

New Reference sires–Omega and Wedge

Please enjoy the recently updated reference sire section of our webpage. It is our pleasure to step back in time to feature Omega who still lives strong today in our flock through the power of linebreeding. We have also added several other important reference sires to the page.

2011 Louisville wether lambs

We have now posted some photos of the wether lambs exhibited by Alyssa Heitschmidt at Louisville, 2011. These wethers were born the end of February 2011 and are sired by Impact 920 (Money Maker/Armani/Marcantel). The ewe lamb comtemporaries to these wethers are bred to Pay Day (Money Maker/Packin’ Heat/21), Impact 083 (Young Jock/Livewire) and Excel (Exile/True Blood/Classic) for 2012 lambs. We will keep you posted as these lambs are exhibited at winter shows this season.

All 2012 sires now posted.

We now have all of our sires posted on the website that we used for the 2012 lamb crop. We hope you sense the genetic capabilities of each of these rams with both the linebred Fred Knop Family ewe flock as well as our Impact Hampshire ewes.

We believe that the stage is set to explore some exciting genetic avenues in 2012 with these matings. We invite you to plan a stop at our farm this spring. Our private treaty viewing will start towards the end of February when lambing is completed. Our 2nd online club lamb sale will be held on April 17-18th. We are considering a consignment or two to other spring and summer sales in 2012.

Announcing our 2012 sires!

The stud rams listed below will see service in the Fred Knop Family flock for 2012. We hope you will find their genetics to be interesting and the genetic combinations resulting from their use in our linebred flock to be exciting!

Pay Day (Impact 1023):

Many have said that Pay Day is destined to continue the legacy of his sire–Money Maker! Money Maker progeny win many major shows year after year. Most recently a Money Maker son was named Grand Champion FFA lamb at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Interestingly, a wether sired by a Money Maker son was named Grand Champion 4-H lamb at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Pay Day has grown into a truly awesome yearling. His top reminds me of an aircraft carrier and his hip is like that of a Maine Anjou steer. What really sets Pay Day apart from the crowd is the depth of muscle and muscle dimension he exhibits. His linebred Packin’ Heat maternal pedigree insures showring-appropriate offspring. We humbly and heartily invite you to view his progeny next spring. We plan to expose Pay Day to many of the key, straight Impact Hampshire ewes that we have purchased the last two years. These ewes were the result of our first-pick selections of the mature females that the Reilly family chose to sell. Many of these females were the mothers of stud rams, winning wethers and replacement females raised by Impact the last few years.

Catalyst (Wheaton 0-126, ET):

We are very fortunate to own Wheaton 0-126. He is an April-born flush yearling sired by Untouchable (enough said!). Catalyst’s mother is the famous flush female Wheaton 3093, a daughter of Cabaniss 69 and a Nitro daughter. Wheatons have sold many rams out of 3093 including Majestic (Pipeline), 7005 (Rumor), and 9110 (Exile) plus many others. The Res. Hamp and 4th overall at the 2006 Ohio State Fair as well as the Res. at the New Mexico State Fair were out of 3093. One of Catalyst’s flush brothers won the Jan. ram lamb class at Sedalia 2010 and sold for $8000. Catalyst was used by Wheatons producing 2 keeper females even as an April ram lamb. Many champion lambs have been sired by Untouchable and his sons over the last couple of years.

Catalyst has that perfect “Untouchable” hip, is flawless in his rib structure with tremendous “real” bone, is exceptionally “big-footed” and is absolutely structurally correct and very balanced in his kind. He moves in a very true, fluid manner. We also appreciate the depth of muscle Catalyst exhibits.

Catalyst will also see service on some of the Impact Hampshire females (should be quite interesting) as well as our linebred Mayer Hampshire/Crazy Horse Suffolk brood ewes. Catalyst promises to sire extremely competitive show lambs. Catalyst=Untouchable x Wheaton 3093. Check the record. Then you be the judge!

Apex (Wheaton 1-038, ET):

Apex (ET) has developed into the individual we had hoped for when we purchased him (half-interest) from Wheatons prior to their 2011 sale. Brant described Apex’s pedigree as “the mating of the year” bringing Marcantel 33 together with the Exile daughter of the great flush female Wheaton 7021. Apex’s mother is the flush sister to the following Wheaton stud rams: Epic, 9077, and 9082. Apex’s mother is the maternal half sister to the Wheaton stud rams–Crockett and Napoleon. One of Apex’s flush mate wethers sold for $4700 and a ram lamb brother sold for $8000.

As an individual, Apex has tremendous length of hind saddle and hip. He is dead level, very square made with a very attractive front. Apex will see service on some very powerfully-made Sharp 20 daughters. This genetic combination should make wethers that will compete anywhere.

Excel (Wheaton 1-122):

Excel is a March 5th-born young ram lamb that we are very excited about. Excel is sired by the famous Miller ram–Exile. Check the track record of Exile rams and Exile-sired females, and you will agree not many rams exceed the predictability of Exile! We believe that Excel brings all the “goodness” of his sire to the table with the power and predictability of his maternal genetics which combine TruBlood and Classic with the prepotent 3093 flush ewe (Catalyt”s mother).Talk about “pretty as a picture”! Excel is impecable in his front-end design with dimension of hip not often found. He is also dead level, measures long and moves about the pen without flaw!

Excel will see service on the Impact Hampshire females as well as the Sharp-bred ewe lambs. “Seeing is believing” best summarizes the comments of our customers who have viewed our keeper Sharp 20 and Sharp 24 ewe lambs, and all agree that Excel bred to these ewe lambs could be very special!

Sharp 20:

Not much more needs to be said about Sharp 20 except that “predictability” fills his toolbox! He sired many of the top-selling lambs in our online sale this past spring. We retained many daughters in our flock as well as many sired by 20’s sire–Sharp 24. His daughters are chock full of muscle yet retain that “showring” look. Sharp 20 sires bone, hip and awesome power! His daughters just plain have that “brood ewe” look. We could have easily sold out of the Sharp 20 and Sharp 24 daughters. These daughters, mated to the sires outlined above, promise to be an intregal part of our flock’s genetic future. We believe you will agree that their offspring could very well be unique in the show ring in 2012.

David (Knop 6470):

David is a special ram lamb that we bred and raised. He is sired by Impact 920 (a Money Maker son). His mother is Impact 546, an awesome mature female we purchased from Impact Hampshires. Brian Reilly described 546 as a “Superstar” in their flock. We are blessed to have 546 in our flock. 546 is a half brother/half sister Packin’ Heat combination. 546 is the mother of the Impact ram called “Show Boat”.

David is a mid-sized ram lamb that many descibe as “perfect” for today. David displays a huge top and loin and is very smoothly made particularly considering his overall mass and power. David also moves in a very “fluid” manner. His gait is with purpose and coordination. David is the type of ram that can be bred to about any kind of female. David represents the genetic combination that has propelled the Impact Hampshire flock into the forefront of today’s elite programs.

Also note:

The Fred Knop Family now has 30 straight-bred Impact Hampshire females in our flock. Some of the well-known sires represented include: Money Maker, Full Impact, Livewire, Houston, Buckmaster, Packen’ Heat, Cabaniss 86, Macho Man, Mission Impossible, Primetime, Armani, Showbox, and “LJ” Long John (Duffy). It is with great anticipation that we place the above sires with these Impact Hamp ewes and ewe lambs. We will be among the few offering Wheaton/Miller genetics combined with the old line Impact Hampshire gene pool. We invite your visit next spring. Your next champion could well be here.

We also believe that our linebred Crazy Horse Suffolk/Mayer Hampshire ewe flock will “nick” in an exciting fashion with the above stud ram battery. Both the Impact Hampshire females and our own flock will produce lots of “wool” for our 2012 lambs. We will also offer wethers that will classify Suffolk with the great “crossbred” phenotype that Hampshire genetics in the mix will produce.

Sincerely,

The Fred Knop Family
